Buns and updos are simple natural hair styles especially when you don’t have time to do more long term protective styles. Buns and updos can be professional and elegant natural hair styles. Buns in particular are also a great way to keep your ends tucked away from the damaging elements.
General tips for bun and updo hair styles:
- Do not brush your hair too hard to avoid damaging your edges
- Use ouchless band or clips to prevent snagging the hair
- Moisturize your ends well and apply oil to keep them moist before bunning or pinning up
I know buns and updos can seem like a boring natural hair style but you can make them fun and attractive using accessories. I use flowers, headbands, clips, and pins to accessorize my buns and updos.
Important- I personally do not recommend wet bunning for MOST naturals with type 4 hair. I find that when I have tried this my hair was a tangled mess. Some people have used wet buns to help grow their hair but I find it very hard to get the tangles out and I end up with lots of breakage.
In terms of protective styling I personally prefer to wear other types of updos. An updo is basically a style that puts the hair up so that it is not rubbing against the shoulders, neck etc…
I like the jumbo twist bun. Will definitely try it. Thanks!
